The popular hit Bravo-TV show Tabatha’s Salon Takeover revolves around Tabatha Coffey helping failing salons turn around in one week. Now in its third successful season, the episode filmed last year in Provincetown at the tip of the Massachusetts Cape, features the dynamic and effervescent talents of Robby LaRiviere. A beautician extraordinaire, LaRiviere splits his time between Provincetown’s Town’s West End in the summers and the celebrity-filled boulevards of Beverly Hills and Southern California the rest of the year.
Those who have seen the show know LaRiviere as the spray tanning “guru.” LaRiviere comments, “Tabatha was an amazing experience that opened many doors and helped manifest inherent skills to beautify the world!”
And like so many others that came before him, Provincetown managed to cast its magical spell over the Andover, Massachusetts native.
Born December 15, 1989, LaRiviere spent every summer on Cape Cod at his family’s summer house in West Yarmouth, but never made it past Chatham until the age of 18.
Then fortuitously he “got a gig” as the saying goes, in of all places Buzios, Brazil where he further honed his gifted talent as a hair/makeup artist.
Two winters later he co-founded a traveling Beauty Design salon service in Los Angeles at the age of 20.
As a Vidal Sassoon trained stylist in the beauty business since the age of 15, LaRiviere remarks about just one aspect of his services, “Having a spray tan should be as common as receiving a haircut or manicure.” Adding, “Spray tans have always had such a bad rap, but a properly executed spray tan with my custom quality solution will last long, look fabulous, and create a natural Caribbean glow.”
LaRiviere exclaims - in one of his signature lines from Tabatha’s show, “Why be a NINE when you can be a TEN?!”
At the hands of this expert, he says his exclusive odorless solution is totally natural, streak free, and has an ash base so you are left with a natural looking tan straight - minus the sun damage.
However, tanning is just the tip of the iceberg of LaRiviere’s entrepreneurial talents. He does everything from hair extensions, to makeup, to anti aging facial treatments, waxing, manicures, his signature “Better than Sex” pedicures, up-dos (yes, even Chignons), hair cutting, coloring and styling.LaRiviere’s services are never more than an email away. The icy cool steel of Tabatha Coffey’s razor sharp eye and savage tongue has whipped the most dysfunctional salons and strident coiffeurs into shape. But the Australian star of Bravo’s Tabatha’s Salon Takeover almost met her match at the West End Salon, and not with Dougie Freeman, the longtime owner of the salon with eccentric sass, but with his young protégé, Robby LaRiviere. “It was torture,” says LaRiviere of his experience filming the episode, which premiered in January 2011.Read More
